Sleep Medicine

Internal Medicine

Hello, I’m Jin. Originally from Seoul, Korea, I completed my medical education at Yonsei University, College of Medicine. Following that, I pursued my Internal Medicine residency at Weiss Memorial Hospital at uptown in Chicago. Intrigued by the complexities of sleep disorders and their profound impact on health, I chose to specialize in sleep medicine to enhance patient care through advanced treatments and research.

Having spent the last 3 years in Chicago, I’ve grown fond of the city’s dynamic medical landscape and its diverse patient demographic. I look forward to furthering my career here at UChicago, collaborating with esteemed colleagues, and immersing myself in Chicago’s vibrant cultural scene.

Jin Young Hwang, MD

Pulmonary Disease

I’m originally from Ottawa. My background includes internal medicine and respirology, with training from the University of Ottawa and McGill University Health Centre. I was drawn to the sleep medicine community because of its kindness, compassion, and intellectual curiosity. My interests include therapies like hypoglossal nerve stimulation and diaphragmatic pacing for central sleep apnea, as well as the management of non-respiratory sleep disorders and navigating the administrative side of sleep centers.

Outside of work, I love biking along Chicago’s lakefront, exploring festivals with my wife, playing pickleball, trying new foods, and capturing beautiful moments through photography. I’ve yet to try Taco Bell, but our APD at UChicago is determined to get me up to speed. After my fellowship, I plan to return to Canada to help lead the Sleep Medicine program at McGill University.

Joshua Taylor, MD

Pulmonary/Critical Care

Originally from the Chicagoland area, I attended medical school at the University of Limerick in Ireland, where I developed a passion for pulmonary medicine while working at a leading cystic fibrosis center. After completing my IM residency at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, with rotations at Johns Hopkins and NIH, I pursued a PCCM Fellowship at Temple University, focusing on research in COPD, pulmonary hypertension, and sleep medicine.

I joined the UChicago Sleep Fellowship given its long history at the forefront of sleep medicine. With its environment of collaboration and inquisitiveness, the group here is truly passionate about working with us as trainees to explore our interests and improve as clinicians and as individuals. Their true passion to provide high quality and individualized patient care in both the sleep and advanced respiratory care clinics makes the faculty and staff truly remarkable.

I enjoy hiking, exploring nature, and reading, particularly about Roman and Russian history. These help me maintain a balanced life and keep my curiosity alive, both personally and professionally.
